I’d like to share with you about my own 20-year learning journey in helping the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation to deploying flexible philanthropic capital to help restore nearshore marine life populations in the Main Hawaiian Islands so that future generations can benefit and learn from this rich natural resource. I’ll bring to light the mistakes we’ve made, the successes we’ve had, and the assumptions and passions that drove our work as we became Hawaii’s single largest philanthropic funder of nearshore resiliency by far.
While our commitment is far from over, our ultimate measure of success will be whether these kids, when they become grandparents, will have reefs healthy enough for them to teach their grandchildren to fish. After all, these keiki are the generation that will set the sail plan, unfurl the sails, and steer Hawaii towards a future that honors its past and restores abundance to our islands.
With Aloha,
Terry George
